Let me tell you all about Melissa and Dion’s wedding in Hove Van Herpelgem. It was a beautiful summer day filled with love, family, and friends, in an incredibly beautiful, elegant style inspired by American weddings. Melissa opted for a daring black-and-white color theme. A theme that might seem superficial, but nothing could be further from the truth on this day. Everything truly came together perfectly. I had the honor of being there the entire day, from beginning to end, to capture every moment. As a wedding photographer from Belgium, I have the pleasure of visiting all the most beautiful places in our country, and I’ve had the joy of capturing Hove Van Herpelgem on multiple occasions.

Melissa and Dion share a love story that has endured difficult periods. Dion is a professional footballer and often has to move to different corners of the world for his job. After he met Melissa and convinced her of his love for her, she followed him everywhere. It wasn’t easy because she had to leave all her friends and family behind for him, but she did it with love. After a while, they welcomed a son, of whom they couldn’t be prouder as parents. Dion wanted to keep Melissa by his side forever when he wanted to ask her to marry him. He originally planned to do it on their trip to Dubai, but unfortunately, that couldn’t happen due to a positive Covid test. So, on a cozy New Year’s Eve, in isolation with their little family at the Belgian coast, he got down on one knee. A spontaneous moment that couldn’t have been more perfect.

When I met them, they had just moved to Thailand. They also lived there at the time of their wedding. So, not only were there guests from Belgium, but from all corners of the world at the wedding in Hove Van Herpelgem. International weddings appeal to me enormously as a wedding photographer in Belgium. The exchange of different stories and traditions, the gathering of different friendships and cultures: it’s something I always enjoy observing from the background.

The decoration of the day was executed perfectly by the wedding planners of Studio Lia. They handled the daring black-and-white color theme exceptionally well; the whole atmosphere was sophisticated, chic, and elegant. Seas of white flowers were a beautiful creation by Maison Julie, one of the best florists in Belgium who has also worked in Hove Van Herpelgem regularly. The overall black-and-white decor with a hint of gold gave the modern glamour feel that Melissa wanted to radiate on her day. The theme was also embraced by the bridesmaids and groomsmen, who looked incredibly stylish in black tie attire.

Melissa’s choice of dress continued her glamour theme: a stunning dress with a long train and high split, but not too much fuss otherwise. No lace and flowers, just elegant and chic, modern yet timeless. Paired with the gorgeous shoes from Rene Caovilla, it was truly a sight to behold! In the evening, for the dance party, she slipped into a short dress by Nadine Merabi. What a vision Melissa was in both dresses! And I’m as happy as a child in a candy store when my brides opt for a second dress on their day. My love for fashion and couture is well-known, so when I’m treated to another evening gown, I’m completely overjoyed as a fine art fashion wedding photographer.

But beyond all the beautiful splendor, it was simply fantastic to feel the warmth and love of the couple’s friends and family. The distance usually present due to their distant residence brought them all closer together. That was the most important: a day full of love and celebrating together.

When Melissa looks back on her wedding, she remembers the planning as a mix of excitement and anticipation. She’s an incredible perfectionist, and from choosing the perfect location in Hove Van Herpelgem to selecting and coordinating all the different vendors, everything had to fit into the overall day, and attention was paid to every detail. As a fine art wedding photographer, I also pay close attention to the details and try to capture them as beautifully as possible; I’m a perfectionist at heart too. Hence, Melissa could completely let go of the photography part on her wedding day and trust me entirely. This gives me, as a wedding photographer, the space to deliver my best work, and I’m very pleased with the result of this wedding.
